Whats onThe London Triathlon 2009 will be swimming, running and cycling its way through the city this August in the biggest triathlon in the world, attracting thousands of competitors from across the globe to London.

The ultimate challenge
Up for a dip in the Thames followed by a bicycle ride and quick jog around the city? In the London Triathlon 2009 streams of energetic hopefuls will brave the elements over three legs of sporting action, aiming to complete the course in the quickest possible time and set a new personal best. The full Olympic triathlon is a 1,500m swim, 40km cycle and 10km run, promising a serious challenge for athletes in London.

London Triathlon 2009 sightseeing tour
The 2009 triathlon route includes a selection of famous London landmarks, providing a suitably grand backdrop to the days events. Competitors will be making their way past a string of iconic London locations including Tower Bridge, The London Eye and Big Ben.

Pick a distance
Die hard triathletes can go in for the Olympic distance event or enter the shorter Sprint and Super Sprint distances. A relay event is also taking place, with each person in a team of three completing one discipline of either swimming, cycling or running. With London already gearing up for the 2012 Olympics the Mazda London Triathlon 2009 will be a taster of sporting excellence in the city.

Show some support on the day
Spectators are welcome to line the streets and support the competitors on the day, at what is guaranteed to be a lively day of sporting action in London. The event is also expected to raise over £1.5 million for charitable causes, with participants taking up the challenge in support of various charity groups.

Over a decade of London triathlon action
The London Triathlon is celebrating its 12th anniversary this year, in what has become the largest and most popular triathlon event in the world. Unsurprisingly, places have been in even higher demand this year with competitors keen for the chance to be part of a milestone race event in London this summer.

Triathlon Expo
ExCel Centre will be home to the London Triathlon Expo, a huge, free sports and fitness exhibition. A line up of exhibitors will be showcasing the latest in sports products in addition to professional advice from a string of experts. The Expo is also the end point of the triathlon itself, giving visitors the chance to cheer competitors across the finish line before grabbing a bite to eat at the Sprint Cafe.

The Mazda London Triathlon 2009 takes place from Saturday 1st August – Sunday 2nd August 2009. Events begin at 11am on Saturday and 6.30am on Sunday, and carry on until around 6pm on both days. Races start at the Royal Victoria Dock, Excel Centre.

The Triathlon Expo will be held at ExCel Centre, Docklands, from 9am on Saturday 1st August and 5.30am on Sunday 2nd August 2009.
